SINGLESPEED ARIZONA 2007 I know I should have gotten something written down over a week ago, but the times have been to fun/busy to stop the drinking and riding I have been doing with the folks from out of town. Now that the alcohol has settled it seems that maybe I have forgotten a lot. So here is some of what I recall. Most importantly thank you all that took part in the ride and to all the sponsors that showed their support. About 50 people showed up to do the ride, most were Singlespeeders. Everyone who started finished (-3 geared riders) and no serious injuries. I would say that alone proves success. There were a few last minute additions; most notable were 3 fellas that are on a nice little bike trip. www.ridingthespine.com These guys found out about the ride, so they converted their ExtraCycles into singlespeeds and gave it a whirl. I have to admit I was a bit worried about them at first, but hey, you get yourself in you get yourself out. O-yeah one of them was set up fixie-Fixie ExtraCycle. Just when you think you may have seen it all. Think about it…..Fixie-ExtraCycle x Miligrosa = What the HELL??? After the gathering at the beginning of Redington Rd, It was apparent some folks wanted to go fast and some were doing what it took to get to the top of the hill. Even if it meant stopping for the 2 nd -4 th beverage. After the first loop threw Chiva everyone returned to the Az trail high-spirited. Some took this time to get hydrated, make mechanical adjustments and wipe of some blood. I'm not exactly sure how long it took everyone to get back to the AZ Tr. And start heading west. But I waited to see everyone threw the half way mark and by doing so was the reason I missed the first few finishers back at the park. Yes very SingleSpeedy indeed!!! After a little wait most of the riders made it back to the park. Where Brooklyn Pizza and beverages were plentiful for all. The group travel back to my house where the goodies were divided up and we set of on the bikes down to The Surly Wench pub. Here we were treated to great amounts of booze, eats, music that made you move your dancing feet and the memories of the day were aloud to get Fuzzy. If you have Photos or a story to tell send to Singleswizzle@aol.com See you all next year. A few things that I heard from the participants that made me feel tickled: That was the biggest little epic. NOW, that's mountain biking. Do you have whiskey? At the finish “where is Dejay”? –not at the finish. Let's do it again. Let me by you a beer. You owe me a beer. Smile on, Dejay
